Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Chocolate Covered Strawberries |

It’s that time of year again.  The time of year that lulls between Christmas and Easter.  The time of year when the big wigs from the card and candy industries got together to create some mystical creature with wings wearing a diaper and toting a bow and arrow, in order to dupe us all into buying more of their mushy cards and gluttonous chocolate.  I’m talkin’ about Valentine’s Day, people!

Brownies & Candy

Brownies & Candy |

I have an evil bowl looking me in the face every day.  I think the devil has taken up residence in there.  The bowl beckons me and lures me into its naughtiness several times a day.  No, I haven’t started taking orders from my talking dog.  He doesn’t talk; I’m not crazy.  Or maybe it’s just me he doesn’t talk to.  Maybe he’s mad because I went with the cheap dog food this week and the cold shoulder is just what I need.  Nah, that’s probably not it.  We’ll stick with the “I’m not crazy” story.  I have, however, fashioned a rather striking foil hat to protect me from the Martian invasion.  Just kidding!  (Maybe.)  The evil bowl I speak of is full of leftover Christmas candy, and it taunts and teases me daily.  I must not succumb to its wicked ways.

Shepherds Pie

Shepherds Pie |

This weekend, I decided to surprise my husband with dinner. He’s been talking about shepherds pie ever since I put the kibosh on it at dinner a few weeks ago.  We went to The Cheesecake Factory for dinner with my dad & stepmom around Christmas. (My dad LOVES The Factory.) If you’re not familiar with the place, they have really good food, but their serving sizes are ginormous! Seriously, Feed The Children could feed a small African village with one meal. Knowing that, Mr. Man & I decided to share something.

He had his eye on the shepherds pie (Ha! I’m a poet & didn’t know it); however, I wasn’t feeling it. He unselfishly let me steer him toward a chicken dish. As we were eating, I asked him if he liked what I picked. He shrugged, grunted and said, “It’s not as good as the shepherds pie.” Allllrighty then…

Bacon Wrapped Dates Stuffed with Gorgonzola

Bacon Wrapped Dates Stuffed With Gorgonzola |

This evening we’re going to our friend’s house for a party. It’s Brandon & Debi’s First Annual Christmas Eve Eve Pool Party. That’s right, I said “Pool Party”. The temperature this evening is going to be in the upper 20’s, no biggie. We’re actually forming the local chapter of the Polar Bear Club. You serious, Clark? No Eddie. They’re heating the pool and playing Christmas movies on a big screen. Sorta like the “dive-in” movies…

Banana Pancakes

Banana Pancakes |

Brrr.  Baby, it’s cold outside.  As in, freezing.  We’ve had record cold temperatures down here in Texas for the past several days.  The other day, the low was 2 degrees.  2?!  I know I may sound like a weenie, but Texans have a hard time handling anything below 45.  We tend to batten down the hatches and go into hibernating when it gets colder than that.

Luckily for me, I made these pancakes this week and I was automatically transported back to summertime.  How odd, you’re thinking.  Banana pancakes don’t really scream sunscreen and flip flops.  Stay with me on this… I promise it makes sense…

Spinach Salad

Spinach Salad |

My stomach is waving the white flag.  And it’s not even Thanksgiving yet.  It’s probably not an actual flag though, but more like a white napkin tied to a fork.  That’s more appropriate.

This past weekend, Mr. Man & I took an eating tour through East Texas.  We went to his dad and stepmom’s house for a night.  When we arrived, they had a pot of chili waiting on us, which we proceeded to inhale.  And so it begins…

Pumpkin Muffins

Pumpkin Muffins |

I’m going to be an aunt again!

My husband’s sisters each have two kids, so when we got married, I had an automatic niece and three nephews.  They were forced to call me their aunt and I’m pretty sure they’re thankful that I’m not a blood relative.  Just kidding.  But seriously…
